Some Gen X Thoughts By Gen X'ers

This past Monday Morning Insights blog that I have an RSS feed to, had a post by a good friend of mine who has been having a running dialogue with some twenty something age friends. I would love to hear your comments on Earl's blog. You can read the article An Inconveneient Spirituality yourself and the posted comments. Do you agree? disagree? or have some more thoughts about what Earl and his friends have to say? Help me to better understand your world perspective. Talk to me.

Bro. Gregg, My husband and I are considered to be in Generation X. You asked for comments, so here is my opinion... Yes, I can see it and tend to lean towards agreement (An Inconvenient Spirituality). However, I believe it's all based on an individual's excuses, feelings, and priorities. I feel my generation is struggling with convenience, and instant gratification. We grew up and are used to having things "now" and when the full relationship with Jesus does not come instantly there are many other things buying for our time and attention. What the girl said at the end of the piece "We may betray you…We are not sure we believe…We are not sure we believe you…but will you accept us" says it all. Gen X'ers don't know what they believe or why. Too much coming at them from all directions with conflicting messages. The parable of the sower still holds true today with the three classifications the girl gave in the article. This is my interpretation: Hokey Christians= stoney ground. Bitter Christians= among thorns. Non-Christians= wayside. We (as ministers) cannot go and get rid of all the stones, thorns and change the quality of the soil. We are still commanded to scatter the seed, and must proceed. However, we need to pray the Lord will prepare the soil to get rid of some of the stones and thorns and for it to be good ground! :0)

Thanks Sharon for your comments. The past two or three months have been eye opening and even refreshing as I spend more time with this age group. There is a great deal of untapped potential within this generation
